Off-road diesel is ultra-low-sulfur diesel carrying a red dye that marks it as fuel on which federal and Georgia motor fuel excise taxes have not been collected. Dyed diesel is for off-highway use only. Using dyed fuel in on-road vehicles carries IRS and Georgia DOR penalties. The dye is the enforcement mechanism and inspectors check for it, which is why every delivery records the product, the volume and the date rather than reconstructing it later. We document the classification; your accountant advises on the tax position.
A cadence set to the burn rate
The minimum delivery is 100 gallons and most job site orders run 250 to 3,000. Sites settle into a weekly or bi-weekly rhythm once the burn rate is known, and that standing slot is what holds when a phase accelerates. For anything running six months or longer, on-site storage is usually the better answer — fewer arrivals, no crew waiting on a truck, and a tank that does not care what the schedule looks like that week.
Reaching the equipment
The equipment burning this fuel is rarely parked somewhere convenient. Farm access across the northern reaches of the coastal counties is unpaved and turns soft after rain. Timber tracts have gate width and turnaround limits a full transport cannot work around. Where a tanker is the wrong vehicle, a fuel trailer goes instead — it reaches ground a transport cannot and does not tear up the approach getting there.
